Season's Greetings!
I'm sorry that it has
been a while since my last post, but I've had some technical gremlins
here that have kept me off-line! It's been wet, wet, wet here for so
long that I've forgotten the last completely dry day we've had –
mainly miserable rain, but mixed with some snow for the last few
days. Not pleasant to be out in, but the perfect excuse to stay by
the fire and crochet!
I'm still bobbling
along, but the rounds seem to take an age to complete now, so I can
only manage one or two rounds at a time...
Of course, my itchy
fingers have needed something smaller and quicker to create between
marathon rounds so some experimenting was in order. I have what can
only be described as an obsession with floral motifs, particularly
daisies, plus as you will know by now a real love of bobbles,and as I
fancied a new hexagon motif the Puffed Daisy Hexagon took shape;
instructions below.

These instructions use
American crochet terms.
Hook – 4.5 mm
Oddments of dk yarn –
obviously these can be made with any weight of yarn, just adjust the
hook size to suit.
Abbreviations
st - stitch
ch – chain stitch
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double
crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
Ch 4, join with a sl st
into a ring.
Row
1 – ch 3, work 11 dc into ring. Join with a sl st to top of
ch 3.
Row
2 – work all stitches into the back
loops – ch 4, *4 tr in next st, now make a bobble with these
4 tr by dropping loop, push hook through top loops of 1st
tr st from front to back, catch loop at top of 4th tr and
pull it through, ch 4, sl st in next st, ch 4 – repeat around the
circle finishing with a ch 4 and sl st into the same st as the 1st
st was worked from.
(Dear me that sounds complicated, I hope you can
understand my rubbish pattern speak – basically you should now have
6 bobble petals around, each one with 4 chains each side fastened to
row one with a sl st).
Row
3 – join new colour into top of a bobble, *Working over the
sl st of row 2, (work 1 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 tr) join to top of
next bobble with sl st – repeat from * around.
Now row 4 can be
finished in 2 ways depending on whether you want to join as you go or
sew together afterwards.
So
to sew motifs together afterwards – Row 4 – ch 5 (counts
as 1 dc and 2 ch), dc into same st, *dc in next 5 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc)
into top of next bobble – rep from * around, finishing with dc in
next 5 sts and joining with a sl st to 3rd ch of original
st. Fasten off.
To
join motifs as you go – Row 4 - ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and 2
ch), dc into same st, *dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, miss 1 st, dc in next
2 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) into top of next bobble – rep from * around,
finishing with dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, miss 1 st, dc in next 2 sts
and joining with a sl st to 3rd ch of original st. Fasten
off.
To join further motifs
use row 4 to join each hexagon with a sl st to each other where the
ch sts are ( the sl st is worked in place of the ch st, not as well
as)
I despair when I read
my patterns; if any of you manage to decipher it/them you deserve a
medal!
Anyway, I'm obsessed
with these at the moment, so enough typing, I'm getting back to
bobbling. If I don't post again before Christmas, Happy Christmas
